Web Through the City
Lights shoot through the dark as cars curve around
Well tread roads threading clefts in hillsides.
The valley below is glazed with a glow
As the city attracts these moving lights
Like a spider enticing a meal.
Over-fed, yet not wanting to stagnate
All roads lead into its pulsating centre.
So the streets drank in the people's dreams:
And dwellers were drained while the pavement gleamed.
Universal sameness to their expressions
Drawing sustenance from malevolence.
Eyes from every window gaze listlessly
At scenes of desensitization.
In the dull night, the city lives and broods
With vast patience and primal antiquity.
Then apathy thrived when affectation died
And the walls of the buildings heaved with breath.
So the streets drank in the people's dreams:
And dwellers were drained while the pavement gleamed.
